RAJSHAHI: District motor owners-workers union Wednesday called for an indefinite transport strike in the district from Thursday morning demanding suspension of two officers-in-charge (OC) of Boalia Model Thana and Shah Makhdum Thana of the metro.
General Secretary of the organization Mahtab Ali made the announcement as the two OCs were not suspended for extortion within the given 72-hour ultimatum.
He further said on March 1, hartal supporters set fire to two buses of Hanif Paribahan at Shiroil Bus Stand.
“When we went to file a case against those involved in torching buses, OC of Boalia Thana Alamgir Hossain made a defendant who was not involved in the incident at all,” he alleged.
Mahtab Ali also said, “OC Alamgir Hossain demanded Tk 200,000 when we asked him to mention the name of the buses and its numbers in the case statement.”
Meanwhile, district truck, tank, lorry and covered van workers union president Mainul Haq told banglanews that Shah Makhdum Thana police detained two of their innocent workers and tortured them.
OC Mizanur Rahman of the thana asked for money when they went to release them, he added.
Later, they jointly called the indefinite strike in the district, he added.
