DHAKA: On the eve of Rabindranath Tagore’s 154th birth anniversary India Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted paying homage to Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore.

In his microblogging message, Modi wrote, ‘I bow to Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore on his birth anniversary’, reports NDTV.

In another message he paid homage to the Nobel laureate describing the bard as ‘one of India's greatest thinkers’.

In the message, the India PM said, ‘His prose and poetry have influenced generations. He represents the best of modern and ancient Indian intellectual thought’.

According to the premier, ‘Gurudev Tagore blended the wisdom of India’s past with the promise of its future through his literature, art and music’.

Modi further said, ‘he (Tagore) taught us the power of free thinking while inspiring us to dream of a “Heaven of Freedom” where the mind is without fear and the head can he held high’.

‘We proudly remember Gurudev Tagore’s immense contribution in the making of our nation,’ he added.

In 1913, Rabindranath Tagore became the first Indian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature.
