BHOLA: A farmer drowned in a pond after being chased by police in Bheduria union in sadar upazila of Bhola district on Monday morning.
The victim was identified as Jamal (45), a resident of Char Ramesh village of the union.
Moreover, two police constables were suspended in this connection.
Confirming the matter to banglanews, Bhola police super (SP) Mohammad Moniruzzaman said that police investigation center constables Hannan and Mainul were suspended due to their negligence in performing duty.
The law enforcers are also investigating the matter, he added.
Locals and polices sources said that some farmers were drying their paddy on Bhola-Bheduria road this morning. The aforesaid constables objected it and locked into an altercation with them.
In one stage, farmer Jamal tried to escape the scene as the constables chased him, leaving him drowned in a pond.
Rescuing Jamal locals rushed him to Bhola Sadar Hospital where on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.
Protesting the death locals beat constable Hannan and blocked Bhola-Bheduria road and demonstrated in the area.
