5 held for making fake currency

DHAKA: Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan arrested five persons Friday night from Ramna area in the city for their alleged involvement in making fake currencies.
 
The detectives also recovered forged currency worth Tk 35 lakh from their possessions.

The arrestees are Monir Khan, kingpin of the gang, his cohorts Yakub Ali, 20, Rubel Gazi, 25, Shahabuddin, 32 and Nazmul Islam, 26.

In a press conference at DMP media centre, DMP DB deputy commissioner Sheikh Nazmul Alam on Saturday noon said being tipped-off, a DB team conducted a drive at fourth floor of Allahar Dan Biriani House in the area at about 8:55 pm and arrested the five members of a fake currency making gang red handed.

They also recovered forged currencies along with forged currency making materials from the building, the deputy Commissioner (DB) added.

He said during the primary interrogation, Monir Khan revealed that he has been involved in making fake currencies for seven years. They have been making fake currencies, including Bangladeshi Taka, Indian Rupee, and Dollar, at different areas in the capital and also circulating those across the country.

Police also recovered fake currency making papers, 12 frames, four laptops, one desktop computer, three printers and others equipment from there.

Mahbub Molla, Badsha, Nazir, Rashid, Sattar, Siraj, Loreng alias Babu, Emon and others are involved in fake currency making business, the DC added.

DMP media center DC Masudur Rahman and ADC SM Jahangir Alam Sarker were also present at press meet.
