Anti-Violence Nat’l Convention underway

DHAKA: A daylong convention against violence, militancy and communalism is underway in the city on Saturday with the call for establishing a democratically enriched Bangladesh.

Sammilito Nagorik Samaj (SNS) has organized the convention at the auditorium of Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB).

The event commenced with signing national anthem, followed by performing compassion songs against violence by the artists of Central Kachi-Kanchar Mela.

IDEB president AKMA Hamid delivered the welcome speech while SNS convener Kazi Khaliquzzaman Ahmed is presiding over the function.

Sector commander Abu Osman Chowdhury, economist Ibrahim Khalid, Muktijoddha Sangsad central command council vice president Helal Morshed Khan, and Bangladesh Economic Association member Abdur Rashid, among others, were present there.

AKMA Hamid, in his welcome speech, said that terrorism and militancy are being carried out in the name of blockade and hartal. Country’s economy and education are on the brink of collapse due to prevailing violence amid hartal and 82-days of non-stop blockade, he added.

As conscious citizens can not stay silent in such crisis period of the country, the convention has been organized with participation of the people from different professions, Hamid added.

Bangladesh Unnayan Parishad executive director Nilufar Babu is moderating the function there.
