DHAKA: Law enforcers detained at least 151 persons, including 8 BNP-Jamaat men, in nightlong drives in Narail, Jessore and Satkhira districts on Sunday.
In Satkhira, police arrested 22 persons, including four activists of BNP and its key ally Jamaat-e-Islami in accusation of creating violence.
Confirming the matter to banglanews, Satkhira district police special branch officer-in-charge (OC) Sheikh Emdad Hossain said that they conducted drives from Saturday midnight to Sunday 12:00pm and arrested 22 persons.
According to him, the arrestees are accused in different cases in several thanas of the district.
Banglanews Narail correspondent said that police detained 52 people including a BNP leader from different upazilas of the district till Sunday morning.
District Superintendent of Police (SP) Rakibul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Narail police control room sources said that law enforcers detained 17 men from Sadar, 15 from Lohagara, 10 from Kalia and 10 from Noragati upazilas.
The detainees include Kashipur union Ward no-8 BNP unit general secretary M Ali Miah.
Police conducted the drives from Saturday night to 8:00am Sunday, the sources added.
However, Jessore correspondent said that police, in overnight drives, rounded up 57 people from eight upazilas of the district between Saturday night and Sunday morning for their alleged involvement in different crimes.
Jessore police control room sources said all the arrestees are accused in different cases with respective thanas.
They would be produced before court at noon, the sources added.
Moreover, 20 persons, including 3 Jamaat activists were arrested in Gaibandha as part of an anti-violence drive across the district.
Confirming the matter, Gaibandha additional police super Mosharraf Hossain said they arrested 3 Jamaat men from Palashbari upazila in an anti-violence case.
The other arrestees are accused in other cases, he added.
