Mawna flyover set to open to traffic Saturday

GAZIPUR: The much-awaited Mawna flyover constructed at Mawna point on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway is set to open to traffic Saturday afternoon.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is scheduled to open the 450-metre flyover at 4.00 pm, said sources concerned.

After the inauguration, the PM will also address a rally at Piar Ali University College of Mawna.

The construction works on the flyover on the highway in Gazipur has been completed three months before the stipulated timeframe, sources added.

ECNEC had approved the Joydebpur-Mymensingh road development project in 2010 aiming to ensure speedy, safe, traffic jam-free road communication of greater Mymensingh with other parts of the country and socio-economic development of the region. The flyover has been constructed under the development project.

Sources also said the construction of the flyover had started on October 26 in 2013. The work of the 400-metre length and 19-metre width flyover has been completed in about two years at a cost of Tk 70.22-crore.
