DHAKA: Though there is no formal announcement, the administration seems determined in giving no more time to death row war criminal Jamaat leader Kamaruzzaman for seeking clemency.
State Minister for Home affairs Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal told a news daily on Friday that Kamaruzzaman would be hanged on Saturday, as it was not done on Friday.
Additional law enforcers were deployed surrounding Dhaka Central Jail on Friday night. All shops-markets were shut down due to security issues.
Meanwhile, Dhaka Central Jail source said, they were all prepared for execution and waiting for the end of procedure.
Earlier on April 6, the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court rejected review petition of Jamaat assistant secretary general leader Muhammad Kamaruzzaman against its verdict that upheld the death penalty of him.
On May 9, 2013, the ICT-2, led-by Justice Obaidul Hassan, awarded capital punishment to the Jamaat assistant secretary general for his crimes against humanity during country’s Liberation War in 1971.
