GAZIPUR: A trawler, with 50 passengers on board, sank off Sitalakhya River in Kaliganj Upazila of the district Sunday afternoon.

Sources said the trawler was heading toward Kaliganj Sadar from Mulagaon at 4:00pm. Few minutes after the departure from the ghat adjacent to RFL, it sank off the mid-river with 50 passengers on board.

Locals, later, rescued 26 people from the spot.  

From the spot, Kaliganj Thana officer-in-charge Tarikul Islam told banglanews that specifically, it is not known how many passengers were on board the trawler. Of them, locals rescued 26 staff of ‘Pran group’.

Divers have been asked to rescue the missing passengers, he added.
