SIRAJGANJ:  An activist of Islami Chhatra Shibir, student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, was killed by police in response to a shibir attacked on them in Dhanbandhi area Ullapara upazila of the district early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Anisur Rahman Anis, 18, student of class XI of Mawlana Bhasani Degree College and son of Jahangir Hossain of Goihata village of the upazila.

Sirajganj Sadar Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Habibul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said they conducted a drive in ‘Limon Hostel’ of the area around 9:00pm Sunday and detained six students.

The law enforcers also seized three cocktails from the hostel.

Then, police detained Limon, the owner of the hostel, for interrogation.

Suddenly, other students attacked on police. In response, police opened fire at them that left Shibir activists Anis bullet injured.

Anis was rushed to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 5:45pm Monday.

Attending doctor of the hospital M Faisal Ahmed said Anis died due to heavy bleeding.
