DHAKA: At least 17 people, including women and children, were killed and 21 injured in road crashes across the country on Saturday.

Dhaka: Seven people, including four members of a family, were killed in a road accident on Dhaka-Aricha highway in Barobaria area in Dhamrai upazila in the afternoon.

Two of deceased were identified as Monowar Hossain Manu Mia, 45, son of one Shamser Ali of Manikganj and car driver Faruk Hossain, 45.

Highway Police SI Nannu said two passenger buses ran over a private car one after another in the area, leaving four dead on the spot.

Three others died on way to hospital, Manikganj Sadar Hospital emergency department in charge Saiful Islam said. All the victims were passengers of the private car.

Besides, another unidentified person was run over around 7:00am at Khilkhet area in city.

Khilkhet Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Israil told banglanews that the person was run over while crossing the road under Kuratoli flyover.

Sirajgaj: Three women were killed and 15 others injured in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck at Baniaganti area in Kamarkhand upazila of the district early Saturday.

The injured were admitted to Sirajganj Sadar Hospital and to other local clinics.

Bangabandhu Bridge (West) Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Helaluddin confirmed the matter.

Bogra: A road crash in Bogra’s Dhunat upazila claimed lives of a husband and wife in the morning.

The accident took place in Sonahata Bazaar of the upazila as a truck hit the motorcycle leaving the motorcyclist Momtajuddin (45) and his wife Shefali Khatun (35) dead on the spot.

Dhunat Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Ziaur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Besides, a motorcyclist was killed and three others injured on Gohail road in sadar town in the morning.

The deceased was identified as Omar Faruq Rifta, 18, son of one Liton Mia, hailed from Koigari Purbapara of the town.

Assistant police super (ASI) Gaziur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Tangail: A woman was killed as a sand-laden truck knocked her on Dhaka-Tangail highway at Deohata bus stand area under Mirzapur upazila of the district around 8:45am.

The deceased was identified as Nayan Bala, 50, hailed from Kachuapara village of the upazila.

Sylhet: A man was killed and two others injured in a head-on collision between a covered van and a CNG-run auto-rickshaw on Sylhet-Sunamganj road at Kumargaon bus stand area around 11:45am.

The deceased Sonafar Ali, 55, hailed from Kalaruka village under Sadar upazila.

The injured were admitted to Osmani Medical College and Hospital.

Jalalabad Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Akhter Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Mymensingh: A man was killed in a head-in collision between a truck and a pick-up in front of Maizbari Madrasa of sadar upazila around 6:00am.

The deceased Asgar, 38, hailed from Bajat Kutubpur under Katiadi upazila.

Kotowali Model Thana sub-inspector (SI) Nurul Huda confirmed the matter to banglanews.
