DHAKA: At least five persons were killed in separate incidents of lightning in Kishoreganj and Netrokona districts Monday evening.
Two farmers, who were returning home with paddy by boat in haor areas of Itna upazila of Kishoreganj, killed in lightning strike.
The victims hailed from Baneshwar village of the upazila.
Itna Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Abdul Maleque confirmed the matter to banglanews.
Moreover, three, including two school students, were killed by lightning in Kendua upazila of Netrokona same day.
The victims included Rusel, student of class-VII in MC High School and son of one Nurul Islam of Goichhachiya village; Ariful Islam, student of class-IX in Majlishpur High School and son of one Alim Uddin of Sundrakanda village and a farmer Atikul Islam of Raypur village.
Kendua Thana officer-in-charge (OC operation) Mizanur Rahman Akand told banglanews that Rusel was struck by lightning on their yard and died on the spot at noon.
Ariful died when he was returning home from school, the OC added.
Moreover, Atikul was critically injured as a lightning struck him during harvesting from field in the haor area.
Locals rushed him to Kendua Upazila Health Complex, where on-duty doctor declared him dead on arrival.
