SAVAR, DHAKA: Six people including branch manager of Bangladesh Commerce Bank were killed during a robbery in broad daylight in Ashulia’s Kathgara area under Savar upazila on Tuesday noon.
Police said from 12 to 15 robbers riding on motorcycles entered the bank, in disguise of clients, and made the bank employees hostage at gunpoint.
At one stage, they started hurling bombs and firing to create panic inside the bank that left branch manager Aliullah and a security guard dead on the spot.
Being informed about the incident through mike from the nearest mosque, locals gathered the spot and confined the robbers.
In this time, the robbers opened fire at the locals, leaving shop keepers Manir Hossain and Palash and a workshop owner Zillur spot dead.
However, the agitated mob chased the robbers and caught one. They also beat the robber to death.
Moreover, some 20 more people were injured in the incident and got admitted to Enam Medical College and Hospital.
Tensed situation is prevailing in the area, sources added.
