Jessore board chair among 4 under investigation

DHAKA: Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating about four government officers, including Jessore Education Board Chairman Professor Alauddin Miah over allegations of corruption and embezzlement of government fund.

Three other officers are executive engineers Saiful Islam and Anwaruzzaman of Public Health Engineering Department and executive engineer Nizamul Haque Sarkar of Rajshahi Power Development Board.

The ACC sources confirmed the matter to banglanews on Monday.

The anti-graft watchdog sources said there is an allegation against Alauddin that the government had to count Tk 53.83 lakh in losses for his violation of the regulations when he was the chairman of Dinajpur Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board.

Saiful and Anwaruzzaman embezzled huge amount of money allocated to set up 163 tube wells in primary schools in Bogra’s several upazilas, the ACC sources said.

The sources also added that Nizamul also misappropriated Tk 38 lakh in the name of changing marlin of 33/1KV power line, stretching from Katakhali area to Hargram, under Rajshai Power Development Board.

The ACC ordered its officers to investigate the allegation against the four people.
