NEW YORK: Speakers at the 37th session of United Nations (UN) Information Affairs Committee put emphasis on strong media for peace, development and justice around the world.
Cristina Gallach, Under-Secretary-General for Communications and Public Information, remarked this in the opening session in New York’s UN Headquarters on Monday.
She also said the UN has taken initiatives to uphold their activities in social media as well as the traditional media.
At the beginning, the participants stand one minute silence to mourn and express sympathy to the deaths of strong earthquake in Nepal.
The elaborate campaign programs of UN have been presented over the 70th anniversary of UN. A logo and a website were also introduced to observe the program where latest information has been uploaded.
A range of activities and events are being organized throughout the year to mark the anniversary under the theme of “Strong UN. Better World”.
The member countries also urged the UN to reach information of its different development programs and global advancement at remote places of developing world.
