DHAKA: Election Commissioner M Shah Newaz assured of taking stern action against them who will deter journalists from discharging their duties during city corporation elections.

He made the remarks in the EC secretariat on Tuesday noon.

The commissioner also said the journalists will perform their duties as usual and police are also ordered not to deter media persons.

Proper action will be taken if anyone obstructs the media from doing their duties, he added.

Earlier, there was an allegation that law enforcers deterred the journalists to enter the polling stations.
