13 girls fall sick at exam center

BAGERHAT: At least 13 minor girls fell sick in Arpara village under sadar upazila of the district as mass hysteria attacked them when attending examinations at a local school on Tuesday.

The ailing girls are aged from eight to 11 years and students between class III and class VI, living in Arpara village.

Sara Tanjila, a physician of nearby Fakirhat Upazila Health Complex, told banglanews that a girl began suffering from reparatory problem at Arpara Government Primary School during examination. Subsequently, 12 others girls fell sick due to mass hysteria.

Teachers rushed them to the health complex where they were given treatment. All of the students are now out of danger, the physician added.

Mass hysteria, in medical science, is commonly referred the spontaneous manifestation of the same or similar hysteric physical symptoms by more than one person.
