KUSHTIA: At least four people were killed and 30 others injured as a passenger bus plunged into a roadside ditch in Noymile Kachari area under Mirpur Upazila of the district early Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Alam Mandal, 55, president of Bishwa Zaker Manjil, Nur E Alam Siddique, 55, and Zahidul Islam, 40, of Keshorbpur village under Akkelpur Upazila of Joypurhat district, and bus driver Parvez, 34.

Details of the injured could not be known.

Police sources said the bus, carrying passenger, was traveling to Bishwa Zaker Manjil, Atrashi under Sadar upazila of Faridpur district from on Joypurhat.

On its arrival in Noymile Kachari area around 3:00am, the driver lost control over steering that led the bus to plunge into a roadside ditch, leaving four people dead on the spot and 30 others inured.

On information, police are Fire Service and Civil Defense personnel rushed to the spot, rescued the injured and took them to Kusthia General Hospital.

Death toll is likely to rise as half of the injured are in critical condition.
