12 illegal Malaysia bound held

CHITTAGONG: Police detained 12 people from Khudukkhali area of Chhanua union under Banshkhali upazila of the district Friday night foiling their attempt to go to Malaysia through the sea illegally.

Of the detained, three were from Cox’s Bazar, three from Habiganj, two each from Narshingdi and Kishoreganj and one each from Narayanganj and Chittagong.

However, police failed to detain any trafficker.

Banshkhali Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Swapan Kumar Majumder told banglanews that they detained 12 people from the house of Syedul Alam and Sajjad Hossain of Chhanua union.

The traffickers went to hire an engine-run boat after gathering the 12 fortune seekers to send them off to Malaysia illegally, he added.

Banshkhali Police Station sub-inspector (SI) Azam told banglanews a case was filed with the police station naming 22 traffickers and 10/12 unknown persons.
