PM to visit Tripura next September

Dhaka: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit Tripura in next September. This will be the first visit of any Bangladesh prime minister to northeastern part of India. The main theme of the visit would be to boost trade and economic relations with the India's north-eastern state. Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Tariq Ahmed Karim would visit Agartala next month to finalise PM's schedule. 

Sources in Prime Minister's office (PMO) confirmed Banglanews24 on Monday that, they have already sent a communiqué to Agartala, in reply to an invitation letter of Manik Sarkar, chief minister of Tripura. Mr. Sarkar Invited PM Hasina when he visited Dhaka last month to attend Independence Day celebrations. Manik Sarkar is a Leftist politician and known as a well-wisher of Bangladesh. 

During the visit PM Sheikh Hasina will attend the Tripura University's 8th convocation. At that ceremony the Tripura University- which turned into a central university in July 2007, will confer an honorary D. Lit. (honoris causa) to Sheikh Hasina. Indian President Pratibha Patil will be the chief guest in convocation. This is the first time that the Tripura University would confer the honorary D. Lit. to any person after the university was set up in 1987.
