Road mishaps kill 2 in city

DHAKA: Two people were killed in separate road mishaps at different places in the city on Wednesday.

The deceased were identified as Masud, 18, son of Abul Hossain, a resident of Arambagh areas of the city, and Asadullah alias Telu, 50, slum dweller of Dhalpur in Jatrabari area   of city.

Police sources said that a speedy truck ran over a motorcycle near Pubali Bank in Motihjheel on Tuesday night, leaving the motorbike rider, Masud, critically injured.

He was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) where he succumbed to his injuries around 6:45am Wednesday, the sources added.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Mahmudul Haque of Motijheel Thana confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Police seized the truck and detained its driver, said the ASI.

On the other hand, Asadullah sustained injuries in a mishap on a road near to a Buddhist Temple in Basabo of the city.    

Critically injured Asadullah was taken to DMCH around 3:00am where he succumbed to his injuries at dawn, added the sources.
