Fire guts 50 shanties, injures 5 in city

DHAKA: Five people were injured and 50 shanties gutted as a fire broke out at Sattala Slum in city’s Mahakhali area early Friday.

Two of the injured were identified as Abubakar, 45, and his son Kawsar, 20.

Originated from a blast around 5:15am, the fire soon engulfed the adjacent area, leaving five people injured.

On information, nine units of Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) rushed to the spot and doused the flame after an hour of frantic efforts.
   
FSCD headquarters operator Jiban Mian confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Of the injured, Abubakar and his son were admitted at the burn unit of Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) in critical condition.

Abubakar’s wife Nasima Begum told banglanews that they heard a blast after azan of the fazar prayer. Subsequently a fire erupted in the slum.

Her husband and son sustained burns as they were asleep, she added.
