DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday urged the countries of the southern hemisphere to extend cooperation for the sake of their own.

The premier was addressing the inaugural session of “South-South and Triangular Cooperation in the Post-2015 Development Agenda: Financing for Development in the South and Technology Transfer” at Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel in city.

Addressing the audiences, the premier said, “In Bangladesh, we look forward to a new era of renewed cooperation among the southern countries. Our home grown salinity-resistant variety of rice is a very good example of southern best solution to climate adaptation.”

“We want more cooperation among the Southern countries especially in trade, food security, higher education, skill development, health care, conservation of natural resources, renewable energy, foreign direct investment, capital market development, creating global public goods and scientific research and development,” Hasina added.

She said, “South-South Cooperation is ever expanding, and as time goes by, it encompasses new areas of cooperation.”

“The continuing rise of South as the economic power has added new force to the aspirations of the countries in the South in overcoming common perennial problems like poverty, hunger, obsolete technology, low productivity in agriculture and industry, tariff and non-tariff trade barriers, poor connectivity and ineffective mutual and regional cooperation,” the premier added.

Delegation and diplomats from different countries have taken part in the meeting.
