GOPALGANJ: A former army person was hacked to death and his brother sustained injuries by their rivals at Shashabaria village under Sadar Upazila of the district early Tuesday over establishing supremacy in the area.
The deceased was identified as Lakku Mollah, 63, while the injured was Lakku’s elder brother Makku Mollah, a union parishad (UP) member for ward No. 6 of Paikkandi union.
Police detained four women on suspicion. However, details of the detainees could not be known.
Sadar Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Zakir Hossain confirmed the matter to banglanews.
The OC said that present UP member Makku Mollah had a long dispute with former UP member Khokon Mollah.
Following previous enmity, rivals hacked the two bothers at the dawn, leaving them severely injured.
They were rushed to the district sadar hospital where Lakku succumbed to his injuries.
Additional police forces have been deployed in the village to avert further untoward situation, said the OC.
