14 Bangladeshis freed from Myanmar jail

COX’S BAZAR: Fourteen Bangladeshis including 11 fortune seekers, who served in Myanmar jails for different terms, got released on Tuesday.

Myanmar immigration department handed them over to Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel around 10:00am after a two-hour flag meeting between BGB and Myanmar immigration department at Myanmar port city Mongdu.

Later, the BGB personnel handed over the Bangladesh citizens to Teknaf Thana police.

Rajib Khan, hailing from Muksudpur of Dhaka, served for six years in Myanmar jail, told banglanews that the Myanmar Navy seized their out of order trawler with 88 Malaysia-bound passengers in 2009.

Later, they were sent to jails with different terms, he added.

Mentioning many Bangladeshis still serving in Myanmar jails, Rajib requested the government to bring them back at home.

Teknaf 42 Battalion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Abu Jar Al Zahid confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He also said, “There are 100 more Bangladeshis serving in Myanmar jails. We are processing to bring them back.”
