JOYPURHAT: An alleged robber was killed in a gunfight with police in Maheshpur area under Ketlal Upazila of the district on Wednesday night.

Details of the deceased could not be known immediately.

Police sources said that a gang of robbers was carrying out robbery on Moalmgari-Shibpur road in the area at night, putting wood logs on the road.

On information, police rushed to the spot. Sensing lawpersons’ presence, the robbers opened fire. Police retailed with gunshots to bring the situation under control, leaving a gang member dead on the spot.

Police also recovered several domestic-made arms there.

Khetlal Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews in the morning.
