Yaba trader killed in Teknaf gunfight

COX’S BAZAR: A gunfight between two gangs of Yaba-tablet traders left one dead at Damdami in Teknaf Upazila of the district early Sunday.

The deceased was Syed Nur Prakash Sona Mian, 30, a trader of contraband tablet, son of late Sikdar Ali of Hinlar Ulutamari village, of the upazila.

Police sources said that a gunfight took place between two gangs of local Yaba traders in Bridge No. 14 area of Damdami around 4:00am.

On information, police arrived in the spot. Sensing lawpersons’ presence, members of both gangs fled the area. Later, police recovered the dead body of Sona Mian from there.

Police also recovered two domestic-made guns and eight cartridges from the spot.

Teknaf Thana Officer-In-Charge (OC) Ataur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Sona Mian was accused in a murder case, an arms case, an extortion case and seven drug-related cases, the OC said.
