DHAKA: Bangladesh embassy in The Hague celebrated the birth anniversaries of the two major poets – Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam – of Bangla literature by arranging music, dance and poetry recitation programs.
A press release, regarding the matter, was issued by the embassy in on May 23.
Bangladeshi expatriates, The Hague deputy mayor and Tagore expert Rabin S Baldewsingh, among others, attended the program.
Baldewsingh recited a own-composed poem ‘In The Shadow Of Your Thoughts’ and sang a Tagore song.
Dutch researcher Peter Custers presented keynote paper in the program highlighting both the poets’ writings against all kinds of shallowness and religious extremism.
He also opined that the views espoused by Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam can be a tool in fighting rampant communalism around the world.
Bangladesh ambassador Sheikh M Belal said the philosophy of these two poets will act as beacon to fight religious fanaticism and short-sightedness in the coming days.
