DHAKA: Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal-5 on Tuesday handed down life sentence to a teacher of Holy Crescent School & College for raping a 5-year old student of Play Section.

The tribunal also fined him Tk 200,000, in default, one more year’s imprisonment.

Judge Tanjina Ismail passed the verdict at noon. The tribunal also ordered to hand over the money to the victim’s family.

The convict was identified as Mohammad Minhaj Uddin, 25, teacher of Arabic of the institution.

On March 11 of 2014, teacher Minhaj Uddin brought the student to bathroom and raped her. Later, he fled the spot after watching her bleeding.

The student retuned home and told her mother everything. Victim’s mother rushed her to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH).

On that day, victim’s father filed a rape and child repression case with Mirpur Thana.

On June 26 of 2014, Mirpur Thana sub-inspector (SI) Matiur Rahman submitted a chargesheet against Minhaj Uddin. Later, the tribunal framed charge against the accused on October 29.

Public Prosecutor Ali Asgar Tapan moved for the state in the court.

On behalf of Bangladesh Mahila Ainjibi Samity, Advocate Salma Ali, Fahmida Akhter Ringki and Farhana Rahman Luna gave assistance to the plaintiff.
