Sundarbans Hotel asked to vacate

DHAKA: Authorities concerned ordered Sundarbans Hotel to vacate immediately Wednesday hours after parts of under-construction NBL Twin Tower, adjacent to the hotel, collapsed in the morning.

Addressing the journalists on the spot, director (operation and maintenance) of Fire Service and Civil Defense (FSCD) Major ATM Shakil Newaj Khan said that due to rain, any major accident might happen in the area.

For this reason, it is not safe to stay in the area adjacent to the affected building, located on Bir Uttam CR Dutta road at Kathalbagan in the city. Besides, all are asked to evacuate people from Sundarbans Hotel.

Sundarbans Hotel executive director Faruk Hossain told that construction led an incident damaging gas and water lines of the hotel. All services of the hotel have been suspended from now, he added.

Earlier, a part of the under-construction NBL Twin Tower, fell to the ground with huge sound around 7:30am, creating panic in the area.

Reason behind the collapse could not be known immediately. However, no casualty was reported.
