Lakshmipur ‘gunfight’ kills terrorist ringleader

LAKSHMIPUR: A terrorist ringleader was killed in a ‘gunfight’ with Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) in Vabaniganj area under Sadar Upazila of the district on the wee hours of Tuesday.

The deceased was indentified as Nasir, chief of ‘Nasir Bahini’, son of late Tofail Ahmed, Dewpara village of the upazila.

RAB-11 Lakshmipur camp company commander Major AZM Sakib Siddquie told banglanews that members of Nasir Bahaini were preparing for robbery in the area. At one stage, a patrol team of RAB arrived there.

Sensing lawpersons’ presence, the terrorists opened firings to them. RAB retaliated with gunshots in self-defense, leaving Nasir bullet-injured and forcing his cohorts to retreat the area.

Later, Nasir succumbed to his injures on way to hospital.

RAB also recovered a foreign-made pistol, a LG and 15 rounds of bullets from the spot.

The ‘Nasir Bahini’ chief was one of listed top terrorists in the district and was accused in 37 different suits including that of 15 murder case, said Humayun Kabir, Officer-In-Charge of the district’s Chandraganj Thana.
