DHAKA: Bangladesh has been successfully re-elected with second highest votes as member of the Governing Council of three regional institutions of UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP).
They were elected during recently concluded 71st session of the UNESCAP, said a press release on Tuesday.
The institutions include Asia Pacific Training Centre for Information and Communication Technology for Development (APCICT), Centre for the Alleviation of Poverty through Sustainable Agriculture (CAPSA) and Centre for Sustainable Agricultural Mechanisation (CSAM).
APCICT based in Incheon of Korea. Its mission is to strengthen efforts of the member countries of ESCAP to use ICT in their socio-economic development through human and institutional capacity building.
CAPSA, based in Indonesia’s Bogor, aims to strengthen South-South Dialogue and intra-regional learning on poverty, food security and sustainable agriculture.
The vision of CSAM, based in Beijing, is to achieve production gains, improved rural livelihood and poverty alleviation through sustainable agricultural mechanisation for a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable Asia and the Pacific.
