DHAKA: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid rich tributes to the county’s founder Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman by placing floral wreaths at Mujib’s portrait at Dhanmondi in the city.
Modi arrived at House No-32 in Dhanmondi, which subsequently turned into Bangabandhu Memorial Museum, at 12:10pm.
After placing the wreaths, Indian premier stood in solemn silence for some time as a mark of respect to the memory of the great leader.
Later, the Indian leader visited different corners of historic residence of Bangabandhu and witnessed the rare pictures of Bangabandhu and meetings with statesmen from all over the world, including late Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.
During the time, entourage of Modi, Radwan Mujib Siddiq, son of Rehana, and his wife Peppi Siddiq, Bangabandhu Memorial Trust Member Secretary Sheikh Hafizur Rahman.
He then signed the visitor's book before leaving the museum.
Modi left the museum around 12:35 pm after a 25-minitue stay here.
Prior to that, Narendra Modi paid tributes to martyrs of the 1971 liberation war at National Memorial at Savar.
He placed floral wreaths at the mausoleum at 11:30am.
Earlier in the day, a special flight of Indian Air Force carrying the Narendra Modi and his entourage landed in Dhaka airport at 10:10am Saturday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina welcomed her Indian counterpart at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. Later he was given a warm red carpet reception and Guard of Honour.
His two-day visit to Bangladesh will highlight the connectivity and security issues apart from signing of a number of instruments and deals, aiming to take the ties between the two neighbouring countries to a newer height.
