DHAKA: India Prime Minister Narendra Modi has agreed to provide 50 acres of land in Gujarat to Bangladeshi businesspeople.

Sources from Bangladesh foreign ministry told banglanews that the Bangladeshi business community has already received the news through Pankaj Saran, Indian high commissioner to Dhaka.

“The business community will present a formal proposal to Indian high commission on Sunday (June 13),” the source added.

A team of Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industries (FBCCI) led by its newly elected president Abdul Matlub Ahmed, also Nitol Niloy Group chairman, placed the demand of 50-acre land in India to its premier Narendra Modi during his past-week visit to Dhaka.

Modi welcomed the demand as Bangladesh business community will establish a company over there.

A few days later, Indian high commission to Dhaka conveyed the news to Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) president Atiqul Islam.

FBCCI president Matlub Ahmed in his meeting with Modi also proposed to form a joint commission comprising businesspeople both from the two neighboring countries.

He also congratulated India premier Modi saying that Bangladesh business community believe that the accords signed during his Dhaka visit will boost Indian investment in Bangladesh.

“It will also decrease the existing trade deficit between the two neighboring countries,” Matlub hoped at the meeting.
