Bangladesh to be developed by 2040

MUNSHIGANJ: Bangladesh would be a middle income country by 2021, a higher middle income by 2030 and a developed nation by 2040, if it can continue with the regional connectivity like Europe.

Bangladesh Bank (BB) governor Dr Atiur Rahman came up with the assertions while addressing a program at district Shilpakala Academy auditorium in Munshiganj Saturday.

The governor further said Bangladesh could have achieved 7 percent GDP if there was no hartal or blockade in the country.

He also predicted that the amount of foreign currency reserve would reach USD 25 million (Tk 1,934,698,750) by the end of this year which will help meet import expenditure from six to seven months.

BB governor also said after the inauguration of Padma Multipurpose Bridge, Munshiganj would be country’s largest economic zone.

With Munshiganj deputy commissioner Saiful Hasan in the chair, Mrinal Kanti Das, MP, Sagufta Yasmin Emily MP, editor of Saptahik Arthaniti Zahiduzzaman Faruque also addressed the program.

Besides, Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education chairman Professor M Abu Bakar Siddique, police super Biplob Bijoy Talukder, civil surgeon Dr M Shahidul Islam and news editor of ATN News Munni Saha also attended the event.

However, a total of 13 people from six upazilas of the district were awarded for contributing in economics, educations and social development.

The awardees were Justice AFM Abdur Rahman, M Akram Ali, Barrister M Harun Ar Rashid, Engineer Abdul Jalil Dhali, M Jahangir Alam, M Abu Sayeed, M Osman Gani Talukder, M Almas Khan, M Nurul Islam, Sheikh M Azhar Hossain, Mohammad Rana Shafiullah, Professor Sukhen Chandra Bannerjee and Arshed Uddin Chowdhury.
