Myanmar reluctant to return Razzak

DHAKA: Myanmar foreign ministry denied returning Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Nayek Abdur Razzaq, who was abducted by Myanmar’s Boarder Guard Police (BGP).

Bangladesh foreign ministry sources said on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, Bangladesh ambassador to Myanmar Mohammad Sufiur Rahman met the country’s foreign ministry permanent secretary.

Myanmar foreign minister showed their tougher stand against the release of the abducted BGB man as they are considering Razzaq as an intruder.

According to the Myanmar law, Razzaq may face highest five year imprisonment for his alleged intrusion.

Earlier on June 17, BGP abducted BGB Nayek Abdur Razzak. Following the incident, the foreign affairs ministry on Thursday summoned the Myanmar ambassador to Dhaka Myo Myint Than and condemned the incident and urged him to return the abducted BGB man.

However, Myanmar claimed that its border police have arrested Abdur Razzak from their territory.

Bangladesh ambassador opposed BGP claim and urged them to release the BGB man. He also condemned the release of a uniformed officer’s bloodstained image tied with handcuffs on Facebook.

From Thursday, two pictures of Nayek Abdur Razzaq were released in different social media. In one picture, the BGB man was shown handcuffed and tied with chain to a generator.

Nayek Razzaq’s face and nose were shown bloodstained.

In the other image, a gun, 22 bullets, four cell phones, a long dagger, one knife, two torch lights, several firearms were kept in front of him. The picture showed him wearing a lungi.

Various international media claimed that Myanmar authorities have released those two photos of BGB man.
