PM attends Armed Forces iftar

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina attended the iftar, organized by Armed Forces Division at Sena Kunja in Dhaka Cantonment on Monday.

Earlier, PM’s security adviser Maj Gen (retd) Tarique Ahmed Siddique, chiefs of the three services and the PSO of the Armed Forces Division received the premier on her arrival at Senakunja.

She exchanged greetings with the members of the armed forces and other dignitaries and enquired about their well-being.

A special munajat was also offered seeking divine blessings for continued peace, progress and prosperity of the nation as well as the development and advancement of the armed forces.

Army Central Mosque imam Mohammad Mahmudul Haque conducted the prayer.

Prayers were also offered seeking eternal peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other victims of the August 15 massacre, martyrs of the War of Liberation and martyred armed forces members.

Speaker of Jatiya Sangsad Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, Leader of the Opposition Raushan Ershad, PM's Special Envoy and Jatiya Party chairman HM Ershad, Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Industries Minister Amir Hossain Amu, Agriculture Minister Begum Matia Chowdhury, among others, attended the iftar.

Besides, US ambassador Marcia Stephens Bloom Bernicat, Russian ambassador Alexander A Nikolaev, UK high commissioner Robert G Gibson, Indian high commissioner Pankaj Saran, among the diplomats were also present at the event.

Moreover, parliament members, politicians, former army chiefs, high civil and military officials also joined the program.
