6 India fishermen held in Kuakata

PATUAKHALI: Bangladesh naval police personnel detained six India fishermen with an engine-driven fishing boat inside Bangladesh water boundary.

They were nabbed in Kawar Char area near Kuakata coast in Patuakhali district around 12:00pm on Saturday.

Kuakata naval police camp in-charge sub-inspector (SI) confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said that a group of fishermen were fishing in Kawar Char area hoisting India flag in their fishing trawler.

Later, on information, police held them, he added.

He further said that the India nationals reached in the area with the flow of tide as engine of their trawler malfunctioned.

According to the sources, the incident created panic among the local fishermen.

Alipur-Mahipur fishing traders’ association president Ansar Mollah told banglanews that they could go to fish in past one week due to rough weather.

Moreover, India fishermen are commonly intruding the area leaving the local fishermen deprived of exploiting marine resources.
