DHAKA: An alleged mugger was killed and another one sustained bullet injury in police firing while a gang was fleeing after snatching about Tk 1 lakh from a man at Paltan area in city Monday night.

The deceased was identified as Shamim, 30.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Paltan Police Station Munsur Ahmed told banglanews that patrolling cops opened firing aiming muggers while fleeing after snatching Tk 1-lakh from one Saiful Islam near Mallick Tower at Paltan area around 9:00pm.

Later, the injured muggers were taken to Dhaka Medicall College and Hospital (DMCH), where on duty declared Shamim dead around 11:00pm, he added.

Residential Surgeon of DMCH Dr Roaz Morshed confirmed the matter to banglanews.

SI Munsur Ahmed, however, also said the snatched money was recovered.
