DHAKA: Syed Ashraful Islam has been removed from the local government, rural development and cooperatives ministry on Thursday.

The ruling Awami League (AL) general secretary has now been made minister without portfolio.

A gazette notification, signed by cabinet secretary Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, was issued in this regard in the afternoon.

The gazette also said expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment minister Engineer Khandker Mosharraf Hossain replaced Syed Ashraful Islam.

Moreover, Engineer Mosharraf will perform additional responsibilities at expatriates’ welfare and overseas employment ministry, it added.
