DHAKA: An alliance of lest parties Ganatantrik Bam Morcha has declared a road-march program from October 16-18 to press their 12-point demands, including saving the world-heritage Sundarban mangrove forest.
Prior to that, a national convention of the party will be held on September 4 where party representatives from allover the country will join.
Regarding the matter, Bam Morcha will also hold mass rallies in eight divisional cities in phases from August 1 to 31.
Ganatantrik Bam Morcha coordinator Saiful Haque made the announcement at a press conference at Nirmal Sen auditorium in city’s Topkhana road on Saturday.
The 12-point demands include – Tackling political oppression in the country, ensure the democratic rights and environment, democratic election system for acceptable election, stopping the violence, including persecution, murder and extrajudicial killings, prevent the price hike of commodities, ensure justified prices (with profit) of all agricultural products, including rice, ensuring the wages of working class people, employment of people, immediate stop of Rampal coal-based power project as it risks Sundarbans and ensuring fair share of Teesta water.
Morcha leaders professor Abdus Sattar, professor Abdus Salam, Mosharrefa Mishu, Shubrangshu Chakrabarti and Yasin Mia, among others, were present at the press meet.
