DHAKA: Eight people were killed as lightning stroke them in Capainawabganj, Pirojpur and Habiganj districts on Wednesday morning.
In Capainawabganj, thunderstorms killed two people in a field at Singroil area under Nachol upazila at noon.
The deceased was identified as Tariqul Islam, 37, from Sazzan village and Masud Rana, 16, of Singroil village in the upazila.
Locals said Tariqul and Masud were killed and three other injured by the strike of lightning when working in the filed around 2:00pm.
The injured were whisked off to Nachol Upazila Health Complex.
In Pirojpur, lightning killed two people at Gainsaha village of sadar upazila in the afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Ashim Hawladar, 35, son of Adhir Ranjan Hawladar and Rajib Sinha, 32, son of Samir Sinha of Kadamtala village of the upazila.
Deceased’s family sources said Ashim and Rajib became the victims of thunderstorm when they were making a gate on Nazirpur-Pirojpur road. The lightning left them severely injured.
Locals rushed them to Pirojpur Sadar Hospital where the attending doctors declared them dead.
Dr Sakil Sarowar of the hospital confirmed the matter to banglanews.
In Habiganj, four died after being struck by thunderbolts on their way to Ajmiriganj Bazar from Birat village by a boat around 11:00am.
Ajmiriganj Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Taimur Box Chowdhury confirmed the matter to banglanews.
