One killed in boiler blast at Hasan Steel Mill in city

DHAKA: One person was killed in a deadly boiler blast at Hasan Steel Mill in the city’s Shyampur area Wednesday, local sources said.

The deceased was identified as Billal Hossain, 30, of Jurain.

Police said local people recovered Bellal’s body from the mill at about 5:30 pm.  

Earlier, at least seven people, including an engineer, sustained severe burn injures in a boiler explosion at the steel mill.

Witnesses said a boiler exploded with a “big sound” at about 11am, leaving the seven injured.

The wounded are Assistant Manager of the mill Ataur Rahman, 48, Indian citizen Engineer Madan Babu, 52, worker of the mill Raju ,27, Ohedul Islam, 35, Abdur Rab, 30, Ripon, 35, and Farhad Hossain, 28.

They were rushed to the Burn Unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Among them, Madan Babu, Ataur Rahman and Raju were seriously injured. Most parts of their bodies were burned, said duty doctors.

Locals accused mill-owner Saiful Islam of concealing bodies from the spot.

Officer-in-Charge of Kadamtali thana Quazi Ayub Rahman said they would investigate the incident.

The body was sent to Salimullah Medical College Hospital for autopsy.
