DHAKA: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court (SC) has extended its stay order on the High Court (HC) order on Brazil-imported wheat for two weeks.
Moreover, the apex court has also issued a verbal order to the government for not distributing the stored wheat.
A four member full bench, led by Chief Justice Surendra Kumar Sinha, issued the order after hearing on Sunday.
Earlier, Chamber Judge of Bangladesh Supreme Court stayed the HC order till July 26.
Attorney general Mahbube Alam stood for the state while Barrister Mahbubuddin Khokon moved for the writ petitioner.
On July 8, the HC bench of Justice Kazi Reza-ul Haque and Justice Abu Taher Mohammad Saifur Rahman passed an order saying that the Brazil-imported wheat should not be distributed forcefully. Even then, the government should accept the return of the distributed wheat if anyone wants.
Later, the state pleaded to the apex court seeking a stay on the order.
