Robber kingpin killed in Rajbari ‘gunfight’

RAJBARI: An alleged ringleader of a robber gang was killed in a ‘gunfight’ between his cohorts and police at Gopalpur village in Pangsha upazila early Monday.

The deceased was identified as Abdur Rob, 28, ringleader of a robber gang and also son of Abdur Rahman of Falimara village in the upazila.

Police recovered one shooter gun, two cartridges and four covers of cartridges from the spot.

Officer-in-charge of Pangsha Thana ASM Iqbal Hayat told banglanews that on basis of his confession of arrested the robber a team of police along with him conducted a drive at a bamboo garden of Munaf in Gopalpur village around 12:45 am to recover firearms.

Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, cohorts of Rob opened fire to police that forced the lawmen to retaliate.

At one stage, Rob was caught in the line of fire, leaving him injured.

The injured was taken to Faridpur Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Three policemen, including sub-inspectors Abu Sayem and Hafizur Rahman, constables Rafiqul Islam are undergoing treatment, the OC added.

Rob was accused in three robbery cases in separate thanas.
