1 dead, 29 shops gutted in Ctg fire

CHITTAGONG: A young man was burnt to death and 29 shops were gutted as a devastating fire broke out in the port city’s Agrabad area on Friday night.

The deceased was identified Mursalin, 20, hailed from Barisal.

The fire originated from explosion of gas cylinder around 9:45pm.

Agrabad fire service and civil defense divisional office deputy assistant director M Yahia told banglanews that on information, 12 fire fighting units from Agrabad, Nandankanon and port fire stations rushed to the spot.

After one and a half-hour frantic efforts, fire fighters brought the blaze under control. But in the meantime, 29 semi-pacca shops of one Sekandar Mia were gutted in the fire.

Fire service Agrabad control room telephone operator Biswantor Barua told banglanews that the extent of loss from the fire would go up to Tk 5 lakhs.
