Probir Sikdar released on bail

FARIDPUR: Senior journalist Probir Sikdar was released on bail from the district jail Wednesday afternoon.

He was released from the jail at 1:47pm.

Earlier, the court of senior judicial magistrate Hamidul Islam granted bail at noon to Probir Sikdar in a case filed with Faridpur Kotowali Thana under Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Act.

The case was filed accusing him for slandering an incumbent minister through a facebook post.



On Tuesday (August 18), the same court placed the journalist on a three-day remand in the case.

Earlier on Wednesday morning, Probir Sikdar was taken to Kotowali Thana from the district court for interrogation.

Within a few while, IO (investigation officer) of the case sub-inspector (SI) Mirajur Rahman produced him before the same court, saying, the interrogation was completed.

“No more quizzing is necessary,” he added.

Later, Probir Sikdar’s lawyer Advocate Ali Ashraf Nannu pleaded for bail. The court granted interim bail till the next date of hearing on September 22.

Later, he was released after signing a bond of Tk 5,000.
