Man killed in Keraniganj ‘gunfight’

DHAKA: A man was killed and five police officials were injured in a ‘gunfight’ between a gang of robber and police in Muslim Nagar area of south Keraniganj of Dhaka early Sunday.

The victim was identified as M Yusuf. However, police claimed that Yusuf was kingpin of the robber gang.

South Keraniganj Thana officer-in-charge (OC) Manirul Islam confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said acting on tip off, a team of police went to Muslim Nagar area to catch a gang of robber around 1:45am. Sensing their presence, robbers opened fire on them. In retaliation, police fired back that triggered a gunfight. 

During the gunfight, Yusuf was caught line in the fire that left him dead on the spot and five police officials sustained injuries.

The injured were given treatment at local hospital.

Police also detained two people—Sohrab Hossian, 30, and Ismail Sadar, 32, -- from the spot.
