Thousands of people stuck Kurigram flood

KURIGRAM: Several thousands of people of Kurigram were stuck due to flood as water level of rivers Bramhaputra and Dhorala have increased beyond the danger point.

Houses and communication system have broken down and the residents along with their pets took shelter in higher places.

Kurigram Water Development Board (WDB) executive engineer Mahfuzur Rahman confirmed the matter to banglanews.

He said water level of river Dhorola in the bridge point flowing 33-cm above the danger line and in Chilmari point water of river Bramhapura flowing 4-cm above danger line for past 24 hours.

Victims have been facing shortage of pure water and food as neither public nor private aid has reached to the flood affected people till now.

Kurigram Agricultural Extension Department director M Shawkat Ali Sarkar said aman crops pf some 45,840 hector land went under water. But, if the water removes quickly the damage will be little.

While talking about the damage due to the flood, deputy commissioner (DC) Khan M Nurul Amin told banglanews that 80 metric tons rice have been allocated for the flood affected people and the administration is making a list.

A letter has already been sent to relief ministry to allocate more aid for the flood affected people, he added.
