DHAKA: Two suspected criminals, including a former leader of Chhatra League, were shot to death in a ‘gunfight’ with detective police in Comilla and firing by miscreants in Chittagong.
The deceased were identified as belal Hossain alias Jira Sumon, 30, alleged top terror of Comilla and Mehedi Hasan Badal, 35, former leader of Chhatra League, the student wing of Awami League.
Comilla DB police sub inspector (SI) M Firoz and Chittagong police assistant commissioner (Panchlaish Zone) Dipak Joytee Khisha separately confirmed the matter to banglanews.

Acting on a tip off that gang of Jira Suman was planning for robbery in Palpara Bridge area, a team of detective branch of police conducted drive in the area around 2:00am, said SI M Firoz.
Later, sensing the presence of the law enforcers, Jira Suman and his cohorts fired on them while police also fired back for self-defense. During the gunfight, Suman was caught in the line of fire, leaving him dead on the spot.
He also said a revolver and three light guns were recovered from the spot. Jira Sumon was accused in several cases.
In Chittagong, miscreants shot Badal from behind in Sher Shah Jounrnalist Housing Society area in the port city while returning home around 10:30pm, leaving him injured critically.
He was taken to Chittagong Medical College Hospital where duty doctor declared him dead.
Deputy Commissioner of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Paritosh Ghosh said Mehedi Hassan Badal was former president of Government Polytechnique Institute unit Chhatra League.
He was accused in several cases for robbery, mugging, land grabbing and yaba trading.
